January 2022

Women's 18-Hole Association

LeAnn Headshot

2022 is a lot of 2’s. How about just two more months, February and March, and our new season will be upon us. We are in the thick of planning and preparing for you.

Some great news starts our new year. Andrew Ellis will be our new Head Golf Professional and we will be privileged to work with him this year. Take a moment and go in the Golf Shop and welcome him to his new role. He will begin his position on January 1, and I expect him to hit the ground running. We will miss Brion Lubach as he has been a great supporter of Women’s golf at UBGCC, and we appreciate his dedication to our experience on and off the course.

A new year always invites setting new goals and golf is no different. We can practice more, lose fewer golf balls, swing through every shot, never get in the sand… :) IT COULD HAPPEN! Well, make your own list and take it with a grain of salt because we all understand. One thing you can do is put our first meeting on your calendar: April 5 at 8:30 AM. Our Board will be meeting on January 26; if you have any agenda items you would like included, please contact me at Zebulun@aol.com or call 360-341-1478.

  • History fun: The first secure mention of women playing golf is at Bruntsfield Links in 1738 and the first reference to links golf is in 1811 at Musselburgh, though women's golf societies were not formed until the last quarter of the 19th century. Then came an explosion of interest in women’s golf and golf clubs. The first ever golf tournament for women was held at Musselburgh on New Year’s Day 1811.
