November 2021

From the Boardroom

As summer is in the rearview mirror and we approach the cooler days of fall, I’m struck by the beauty of the course – the grass is greener; the leaves are vibrant colors; the light is different. At this time of year, for many of us, our focus turns toward the indoors. That is also true of your Board.

Our annual budget season has begun. Treasurer Jerry Campo has sharpened his pencils and tuned up his spreadsheets. General Manager Jason Youngsman is compiling operational costs. Each standing committee (Golf, Greens, House & Social, Membership, Planning, Safety & Recreation) is working on its list of priorities for the coming year. Over the next three months, all that information will be considered by the finance committee, fine-tuned, and combined into a final form that balances the wants and needs of the Club and its members.

As you know, we have a refinance package that will be finalized mid-December. The proceeds from that are separate and apart from the annual budget and are earmarked for specific projects. One such project is the court complex (renovation of the tennis courts and addition of pickleball and bocce ball courts). By the time this article is published, we will have submitted the plans to Island County for approval and sent plans to contractors for bidding. We are on our way! It is with crossed fingers that I tell you our goal is to complete the project by the end of May 2022.

As long as I am on the subject of tennis, did you know that our tennis pro, Eric Drew, has just been inducted into the University of Washington Husky Hall of Fame? If you see Eric on the courts or around the Club, be sure to congratulate him. Well done, Eric!

We continue to work on the Golf Shop transition. We have received several applications for our Head Golf Professional position. By November 1, we will have scheduled, and probably conducted, several interviews. We will keep you posted with updates on our progress.

Thanksgiving marks the beginning of the holiday season. It is hard to fathom that it is upon us already! Thanksgiving provides the opportunity to convey gratitude and appreciation for that which we appreciate all year but may not acknowledge. I would like to take this opportunity to express my gratitude and appreciation to our members and staff, without whom this Club, as we know it, would not exist.

May we forever be a welcoming environment where old friends meet and new friends are made.

Happy Thanksgiving to you all!

Best,

Toni Anderson
