From the Boardroom
Gordy and I have enjoyed being part of the Useless Bay family. It is a big part of our lives. When we became proprietary members, we were new as full-time islanders and were overwhelmed by the warm welcome we received. We have made many lasting friendships here. I am honored for the opportunity to serve as your new Board President.
I would like to thank Colin Fleming for his leadership and guidance as Board President this past year as we faced new challenges due to the ongoing pandemic and planning for moving forward. I would also like to extend my gratitude to outgoing Board members Bill Dana and Jan Tepper. The effects of their insights and contributions will be felt into the future. All donated countless hours to a common goal of making Useless Bay an even better place.
It is my pleasure to welcome three new board members: Eileen Brennan as incoming Secretary, Steve Davis as incoming Chair of the House/Social Committee, and Bob McClain as incoming Chair of the Membership Committee. Ted King will assume Bill Dana’s position as Chair of the Safety and Recreation Committee. Many Thanks to Ted for his diligent service as Membership Chair this past year.
Committees are an integral part of the Board’s decision-making process. Perhaps you have had the opportunity to serve on a committee, but if not, I encourage you to offer your talents. The Club will benefit, and you will be glad you did. Currently, the House Committee is seeking volunteer committee members. If you have an interest in serving, please contact Steve Davis (stephenldavis@hotmail.com).
Your voice as members is essential to developing solutions to improve this Club. The Board welcomes your input and sincerely hopes that you will contact me or any board member with questions, concerns, or suggestions. It is essential that we work together for the common good of the Club and its members.
As you may know, the Board has worked diligently on long-range planning. This requires frequent adjustments to adapt to changing situations. You have seen improvements that were the result of those efforts. In the coming year, you will see more improvements. Our goal this year is to continue to be fiscally responsible with our short- and long-term goals and to develop a strategic plan that will lead us into the future.
Indeed, this is an exciting time for the Useless Bay membership!
